Review 9/13/2010
My trip to hell w/ Bally Total Fitness began in late fall of 2008. Stupidly, without researching, I signed up with Bally's because it was so close to my job. BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE. My first clue that I shouldn't have joined was the fact that more than half of the employees were out of shape themselves. Like many others, I, at the time of signing up didn't have the $25 needed to sign up so they took my $5 and agreed that I could pay the remaining balance next time I came in. Jump forward to 2010, I was unemployed and pleading with Ballys to cooperate with me as I could not make the monthly payment of $33.05 (which by the way used to be $47.22 when I originally signed my soul over to this crap of a gym) They began threatening me by sending me notices letting me know my credit could be "jeopardized". I have good credit and I'd be damned if I let this shady company ruin it. After all, I'm only 22. Anyway, after calling over and over again trying to get some sort of help, I was told that in order to "try" to get out of the contract, I needed to write a letter to the corporate office in D.C I did that. NEVER RECEIVED ANY RESPONSE, ONLY ANOTHER BILL! I called again, then I was told They could only lower my monthly payment to $19.99/month. I agreed even though I still didn't like that fact that I couldnt get out of the contract. Before we could finalize the new agreement, we were disconnected. I tried UNSUCCESSFULLY for the next MONTH, YES MONTH, to reach Ballys again, for fear that they might send my name to a collections agency. Everytime I called, the automated voice would say "You're estimated wait time is less than 10 minutes". Well I would be on hold listening to that annoying repeating sales pitch for more than 30 mins EACH TIME. "Every thing you want, every thing you need, everything Bally's." Shut up!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, after explaining my predicament for the BILLIONTH time to a representative, she offered a "clean break" which was an agreement where if I paid $187 (the amount due for the rest of the year plus the past due balance I owed) I could be completely out of the contract for good, which by the way, Bally's had extended to the year 2012 without informing me! I thought she was lying, the offer just sounded too good to be true! You mean to tell me I can buy my life back from Ballys for a mere $187!? It might seem like a lot of money but its a SMALL price to pay for my freedom. So I gave her my credit card number, she told me I'd receive an email confirmation of the payment plus a letter in the mail confirming that the contract was cancelled. I have yet to receive either one. She also told me even though the membership would be cancelled I'd still have access to the gym until December. (Oh how thoughtful of these money-sucking leaches to allow me to have unlimited access that I just paid for). Anyway I sat for another 30 minutes waiting for a rep to pic up again so I could ask what's the hold up with AT LEAST an email confirmation, and she claims it could take up to 48 hours (how convenient) for the membership to be cancelled completely. Well that was Friday....it's Monday....so here I wait. Hopefully, I wasn't scammed by Bally's again. We'll see. Oh, and I too would give Bally's zero stars if I could. Be warned, DO NOT SIGN A BALLY'S CONTRACT EVER.
