Review 11/10/2010
After 10 years of being a faithful and enthusiastic patron, I am cancelling my membership to LA Fitness.

THE "short" version: I added my fiancee to my account last spring. Sometime in early summer, she decided to hire one of the trainers. The trainer was excellent, and my fiancee enjoyed the experience for the few weeks she trained. In August, we found out my fiancee is pregnant. She is 35, HIGH RISK, and we had just lost a baby in April. She stopped training immediately. I went to management in VERY early September (pre-labor day?) and told them I wanted to cancel the training. I was told IMMEDIATELY that it was not possible. Only after I became visibly agitated, and started making calls, did a seemingly contrite manager approach me again. She reassured me that if I got a GYN's letter, all would be taken care of. I provided her with the letter 2 weeks later, and did not hear anything for a few weeks. I was THEN told that the letter had to SPECIFY HIGH RISK. Despite my reservations, we asked the Dr to write yet ANOTHER letter. (they framed the argument as..."this is what we would need in order to talk to corporate and advocate for you...") In the meantime....Billing cycles keep passing, and they keep charging for her gym AND for her training. NOT cheap since I also have the 2 step-kids in the kids club. About 2 weeks ago I finally got the SECOND drs letter and they accepted it and THIS time, upon receipt they stated something like..."we'll send it over to see what we can do" (the CERTAINTY that the letter was all that was needed was NOW changed to a "possibility")Today (11/10) I approached again and asked if they had heard anything. I was told that the manager had JUST left and that the best they could do was freeze the training.

I said that I'd be cancelling my membership immediately and their response was YOUD STILL BE LIABLE FOR THE TRAINING CONTRACT!!!!!! Their excuse: She signed the contract.

MY response was that a contract was a flimsy excuse to justify stealing money for services not rendered since August.

As if the pregnancy dispute was not enough, after the ordeal, I can't help but feel that they DELIBERATELY kept asking for letters, etc. in order to prolong the inevitable, and thereby continuing to bill me.

After TEN years, many friend referrals, they choose to follow this course. VERY POOR CHOICE and SHORT-SIGHTED, as they would have likely had me for ten more years.

I AM LIVID!!!!!
